Introduction
This is an example submitted by Amanda Deacon (University of Leeds). It was part of an online assessment focusing on areas like translation and writing in which students reacted to a given article through various creative writing proposals.
Assessment
The assessment was worth 40% percent of the mark.
One of the creative writing proposals allowed students to engage with the art displayed online at the Musee d’Orsay, writing a short description of a chosen piece. Another creative task consisted of writing a short study, using as a stimulus the following given sentence:
Errant dans Paris (ou autre ville francophone), j’ai poussé une petite porte qui a cédé …
Wandering in Paris (or another French-speaking city), I pushed open a small door that gave way …
Rationale
In this example, creativity and art was used as a stimulus, which allowed students to engage more creatively with their second language.
