Cerdd Iath is a project that aims to encourage langauge learning through expressive arts, engagement and activities. The project’s resources use music and drama to help primary school children to learn Welsh, English and Spanish. The project is supported by the British Council Wales, the Paul Hamlyn foundation, ERW, the University of Wales, Trinity Saint David, and by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
The website for the project also provides a New German section with Vocab and resources for teachers of German (in partnership with Aberystwyth University, Welsh Government and the Goethe Institute.)
Based on the idea that song and melody provides learners with an opportunity to learn another language by listening to melodic patterns and lyrics, the website introduces themes and vocab by means of song and activity.
